June 5: Day 2: Kin Beach to North Cove

Clear Skies, Perfect Avocados, and a Slow Sail to North Cove

There is nothing quite like waking up on a boat after a deeply needed, uninterrupted sleep, knowing the anchor held fast and you haven’t moved an inch.

The morning began in the best way possible—completely unhurried. I brewed a fresh pot of coffee in the French press while Greg prepared breakfast. We’ve entered a very specific, delicious phase of our journey: the Costco Avocado Countdown. We bought a bulk bag before leaving, and suddenly, every single one of them has hit peak ripeness at the exact same time. It looks like it will be avocado toast for breakfast every single day until they're gone, which is hardly a punishment. They must be perfectly in season right now; they are staying beautifully green in the fridge and cutting open without a single blemish.

Because we had nowhere to rush to, we let the morning stretch out, taking our sweet time getting the boat ready to move.

By 12:47 PM, we finally pulled up the anchor and set out for North Cove. The conditions were gentle enough that we were able to leave the anchorage entirely under sail, enjoying the quiet slip of the hull through the water. It was a short, peaceful passage, and by 2:19 PM, we had dropped anchor in our new home for the night.

The rest of the day was dedicated to the fine art of doing absolutely nothing. We spent a leisurely afternoon and evening just relaxing on board, enjoying the stillness of the cove and the slow rhythm of the sea.

 ðŸ¥– Sourdough, Scales, and Shared Burgees I wasn't sure what I was going to post today until we headed over to Lasqueti Island again. This turned out to be a totally unexpected day! Thursday, July 2: Day 29: Rainy Day in Prideaux Haven

Rainy Remnants and a Change of Plans There is a very specific, comforting kind of peace that comes with waking up to the sound of steady rain drumming on the deck when you are perfectly secure, stern-tied, and tucked away in a safe haven. We awoke this morning to a solid wall of rain blanketing Prideaux Haven. While the downpour has finally let up for the moment, the sky remains a heavy, moody gray, and the forecast is calling for at least two more days of wet weather. Faced with a soggy horizon, Greg and I didn't need much convincing to make our decision: we are staying put for another day of pure rest. Sometimes, the weather gods dictate your itinerary, and usually, they know best. June 4: Day 1: Departure from Maple Bay

The Day Lil’ Ollie Went Missing (And Found Herself) On June 4th, the weather couldn't have been more perfect. A warm, brilliant sun followed us as we set out around 12:30 PM from our home port in Maple Bay. We had a beautiful, easy sail over to Kin Beach Anchorage in Chemainus, dropping anchor in the calm waters. It was the kind of summer afternoon that makes you forget about the clock. We met our friend Iris at the beach, hopped into her car, and headed into town for ice cream. One good thing led to another, and she and Will invited us back to their place for a lovely dinner. By the time Iris dropped us back off at our dinghy, the day had quietly slipped away. We’d been gone about six hours, and the soft purple hues of dusk were settling over the water.
