June 14: Day 11: Musket Bay

Getting Our Bearings and Pivoting Back to Blogger

A little update on our geography: I found out that the tiny island Greg and Artemus paddled over to on our first day here is actually Musket Island. As for the island we are currently stern-tied to? That would be Hardy Island! It’s always nice to finally match the names to the views.

I’ve still been ruminating on which blogging platform to use, weighing the pros and cons of WordPress versus Google's Blogger. After a lot of thought, I’ve finally decided that since this is a short-term project for now, I’m going to stick with Blogger.com. It really is the easiest and most straightforward platform for my specific use case. If I decide to get more elaborate down the road and turn this into a much bigger hobby, I can always migrate everything over to WordPress later. For now, keeping it simple wins!

We enjoyed another beautiful day and a peaceful evening on the water. Greg took Artemus over to the dock again for his regular walk, and our little crew member had another successful shore pee. He is really getting used to doing his business on land now, which is a huge relief for everyone on board.

We also made a big decision regarding our routing today. We’ve decided to push up into the dramatic waters of Princess Louisa Inlet before we head over to Desolation Sound. We will be pulling up the hooks and heading out first thing in the morning!

 ðŸ¥– Sourdough, Scales, and Shared Burgees I wasn't sure what I was going to post today until we headed over to Lasqueti Island again. This turned out to be a totally unexpected day! We started our morning with coffee and toast made from the French sourdough we bought at the Provisions store. What exactly is a French sourdough, you ask? This one has organic spelt, wheat, Red Fife, and rye flours in it. It’s a wonderfully heavy, hearty bread that makes you feel like you've had a really high-quality meal. After breakfast, I practiced some of the pieces from my Scott Joplin The Entertainer book, and then, of course, Passacaglia, just to make sure I don't forget how to play it. Thursday, July 2: Day 29: Rainy Day in Prideaux Haven

Rainy Remnants and a Change of Plans There is a very specific, comforting kind of peace that comes with waking up to the sound of steady rain drumming on the deck when you are perfectly secure, stern-tied, and tucked away in a safe haven. We awoke this morning to a solid wall of rain blanketing Prideaux Haven. While the downpour has finally let up for the moment, the sky remains a heavy, moody gray, and the forecast is calling for at least two more days of wet weather. Faced with a soggy horizon, Greg and I didn't need much convincing to make our decision: we are staying put for another day of pure rest. Sometimes, the weather gods dictate your itinerary, and usually, they know best. June 4: Day 1: Departure from Maple Bay

The Day Lil’ Ollie Went Missing (And Found Herself) On June 4th, the weather couldn't have been more perfect. A warm, brilliant sun followed us as we set out around 12:30 PM from our home port in Maple Bay. We had a beautiful, easy sail over to Kin Beach Anchorage in Chemainus, dropping anchor in the calm waters. It was the kind of summer afternoon that makes you forget about the clock. We met our friend Iris at the beach, hopped into her car, and headed into town for ice cream. One good thing led to another, and she and Will invited us back to their place for a lovely dinner. By the time Iris dropped us back off at our dinghy, the day had quietly slipped away. We’d been gone about six hours, and the soft purple hues of dusk were settling over the water.
