June 12: Day 9: Musket Bay

Tech Trials, Clean Hair, and New Music

What a beautiful day! We stayed anchored right here in Musket Bay today. While Greg and Artemus paddled over to explore a tiny island nearby—a picturesque little spot with just one lonely tree, some brush, and warm rocks—I stayed aboard to tackle the challenge of building our blog.

I ultimately decided to build it on WordPress. It is certainly more complicated than Google’s Blogger, but it’s a brilliant platform and highly accessible. I watched a couple of tutorial videos thinking they would smooth the way, but every time I tried to get rolling, I hit a new snag. Don’t you just love technology sometimes?

By mid-afternoon, I reached that point where I felt like I was spinning my wheels and accomplishing absolutely nothing. So, I walked away from the screen and washed my hair. It felt amazing! A little refresh was exactly what I needed.

With a clear head, I jumped back into a different creative project and successfully figured out how to record a piece from my keyboard directly to my phone. My next hurdle is figuring out how to export it from GarageBand into an email to share with family and friends. There are so many paths to take in that app, but... one step at a time! In the end, I really do feel like I accomplished something today: clean hair and mastering the first step of GarageBand recording.

We wrapped up the day with a lovely dinner of barbecued burgers, fresh broccoli, and a bottled bean salad. Now, we just have the dishes to knock out before settling in to watch another episode of The Resident.

 ðŸ¥– Sourdough, Scales, and Shared Burgees I wasn't sure what I was going to post today until we headed over to Lasqueti Island again. This turned out to be a totally unexpected day! We started our morning with coffee and toast made from the French sourdough we bought at the Provisions store. What exactly is a French sourdough, you ask? This one has organic spelt, wheat, Red Fife, and rye flours in it. It’s a wonderfully heavy, hearty bread that makes you feel like you've had a really high-quality meal. Thursday, July 2: Day 29: Rainy Day in Prideaux Haven

Rainy Remnants and a Change of Plans There is a very specific, comforting kind of peace that comes with waking up to the sound of steady rain drumming on the deck when you are perfectly secure, stern-tied, and tucked away in a safe haven. We awoke this morning to a solid wall of rain blanketing Prideaux Haven. While the downpour has finally let up for the moment, the sky remains a heavy, moody gray, and the forecast is calling for at least two more days of wet weather. Faced with a soggy horizon, Greg and I didn't need much convincing to make our decision: we are staying put for another day of pure rest. Sometimes, the weather gods dictate your itinerary, and usually, they know best. June 4: Day 1: Departure from Maple Bay

The Day Lil’ Ollie Went Missing (And Found Herself) On June 4th, the weather couldn't have been more perfect. A warm, brilliant sun followed us as we set out around 12:30 PM from our home port in Maple Bay. We had a beautiful, easy sail over to Kin Beach Anchorage in Chemainus, dropping anchor in the calm waters. It was the kind of summer afternoon that makes you forget about the clock. We met our friend Iris at the beach, hopped into her car, and headed into town for ice cream. One good thing led to another, and she and Will invited us back to their place for a lovely dinner. By the time Iris dropped us back off at our dinghy, the day had quietly slipped away. We’d been gone about six hours, and the soft purple hues of dusk were settling over the water.
