June 13: Day 10: Musket Bay

We overnighted in Musket Bay again and decided to stay put for another day to just soak it all in.

We headed ashore for a lovely walk, having kindly been granted permission to access the trails via a private property with a dock. Along the way, I found a quiet spot to practice my Tai Chi, drank every last drop of my water, and shared a trail snack with Greg. I seriously don't know how he goes so long without needing a drink; I'm convinced he must be part camel! He just laughs and claims he has a "high constitution."

After our walk, we returned to Lil' Ollie to drop off Artemus, who was completely tuckered out by that point. Once we re-hydrated, Greg and I took the dinghy back out to motor around the bay on a scouting mission to find the local stern ties. They were incredibly small and hidden, making them frustratingly hard to spot at first. Eventually, we cracked the code: we noticed a dash of bright orange paint on the rocks just above them. Now we know exactly what to look for!—not that we're going to move from where we are!

It turned out to be quite a warm day today. Looking back, I really should have jumped in for a swim since the water temperature reached a surprisingly inviting 69°F. I’m definitely holding onto the hope of getting into the water tomorrow.

Once the sun dips and dinner is over, the air cools down beautifully. We are still dealing with a few mosquitoes here—not a thick swarm by any means, but just enough of them to be annoying.

 ðŸ¥– Sourdough, Scales, and Shared Burgees I wasn't sure what I was going to post today until we headed over to Lasqueti Island again. This turned out to be a totally unexpected day! We started our morning with coffee and toast made from the French sourdough we bought at the Provisions store. What exactly is a French sourdough, you ask? Thursday, July 2: Day 29: Rainy Day in Prideaux Haven

Rainy Remnants and a Change of Plans There is a very specific, comforting kind of peace that comes with waking up to the sound of steady rain drumming on the deck when you are perfectly secure, stern-tied, and tucked away in a safe haven. We awoke this morning to a solid wall of rain blanketing Prideaux Haven. While the downpour has finally let up for the moment, the sky remains a heavy, moody gray, and the forecast is calling for at least two more days of wet weather. Faced with a soggy horizon, Greg and I didn't need much convincing to make our decision: we are staying put for another day of pure rest. June 4: Day 1: Departure from Maple Bay

The Day Lil’ Ollie Went Missing (And Found Herself) On June 4th, the weather couldn't have been more perfect. A warm, brilliant sun followed us as we set out around 12:30 PM from our home port in Maple Bay. We had a beautiful, easy sail over to Kin Beach Anchorage in Chemainus, dropping anchor in the calm waters. It was the kind of summer afternoon that makes you forget about the clock. We met our friend Iris at the beach, hopped into her car, and headed into town for ice cream. One good thing led to another, and she and Will invited us back to their place for a lovely dinner. By the time Iris dropped us back off at our dinghy, the day had quietly slipped away. We’d been gone about six hours, and the soft purple hues of dusk were settling over the water.
