Monday, June 29: Day 26: From Lund to Prideaux Haven

Day 26: Monday, June 29 – A Sudden Turn for Prideaux Haven
We awoke this morning around 7:20 AM with our hearts set on Nancy’s Bakery. It opens at 8:00 AM, and our original plan was to head over for a couple of fresh barista coffees. However, we soon started having second thoughts. I asked Greg how badly he actually wanted to go. Given that it was cloudy, not very warm yet, and we wanted to get an early start on the water, we realized the logistics would just hold us up. By the time we got dressed, rowed the dinghy over, ordered, ate, and rowed back, we would have burned a lot of daylight. We decided to save the time and simply enjoy our coffee and breakfast on board. As it was, we still managed to untie the lines and leave right on schedule around 10:00 AM.
It has been a much more pleasant time out on the water today compared to our last crossing. By 1:20 PM, the clouds finally began to part and the sunshine started reaching the cockpit. Right about then, we received a sudden VHF radio call from our friends whom we were planning to meet in Walsh Cove. They gave us the ultimate insider scoop: Walsh Cove was already packed to the brim with boats, so they were changing plans and heading to Prideaux Haven instead!
Fortunately, their radio call came at the absolute perfect moment. We were able to make a sharp, complete starboard turn to adjust our course and follow them in. Thanks to the shortcut, our Navionics now shows an arrival time of 2:00 PM instead of our original 4:00 PM estimate for Walsh. An extra two hours of relaxation in a beautiful anchorage is a massive win!
It turns out we are heading exactly where this whole adventure was supposed to begin. When we first pulled up the anchor at Maude Cove a few days ago, Prideaux Haven was our original destination to meet up with our friends. They had changed their minds a couple of days ago and diverted us to Walsh Cove, but I'm honestly so glad the universe stepped in and brought us right back to our original plan. Walsh Cove isn't going anywhere, and we can always head back up there to hunt down those pictographs after they leave for the VICE trip!
Right now, they are about 5 nautical miles away from us, and we will actually be the ones leading the way into the harbor.

We arrived at the haven around 2:05 PM. By 2:25 PM, we had the anchor dropped, the stern line tied securely to the shore, and the boat completely settled. Just as we finished tidying up the decks, we looked out and saw our friends' sailing vessel cruising gracefully into the anchorage behind us. The timing couldn't have been more perfect.
Forgetful Captain! Greg forgot the harness, had to row back to get it from me, and is finally getting Artemus geared up for the beach.

Our friends have already invited us over to their boat for Happy Hour at 5:00 PM. But before the socializing starts, I am taking some well-deserved time for myself. I've missed playing over the last three days, so I am sitting down right now to practice Passacaglia.

With the music echoing through the quiet anchorage and our snacks packed and ready to go, raising a glass in this calm, sunny haven is going to be the absolute perfect way to end a great day out on the water!

 🥖 Sourdough, Scales, and Shared Burgees I wasn't sure what I was going to post today until we headed over to Lasqueti Island again. This turned out to be a totally unexpected day! Thursday, July 2: Day 29: Rainy Day in Prideaux Haven

Rainy Remnants and a Change of Plans There is a very specific, comforting kind of peace that comes with waking up to the sound of steady rain drumming on the deck when you are perfectly secure, stern-tied, and tucked away in a safe haven. We awoke this morning to a solid wall of rain blanketing Prideaux Haven. While the downpour has finally let up for the moment, the sky remains a heavy, moody gray, and the forecast is calling for at least two more days of wet weather. Faced with a soggy horizon, Greg and I didn't need much convincing to make our decision: we are staying put for another day of pure rest. Sometimes, the weather gods dictate your itinerary, and usually, they know best. June 4: Day 1: Departure from Maple Bay

The Day Lil’ Ollie Went Missing (And Found Herself) On June 4th, the weather couldn't have been more perfect. A warm, brilliant sun followed us as we set out around 12:30 PM from our home port in Maple Bay. We had a beautiful, easy sail over to Kin Beach Anchorage in Chemainus, dropping anchor in the calm waters. It was the kind of summer afternoon that makes you forget about the clock. We met our friend Iris at the beach, hopped into her car, and headed into town for ice cream. One good thing led to another, and she and Will invited us back to their place for a lovely dinner. By the time Iris dropped us back off at our dinghy, the day had quietly slipped away. We’d been gone about six hours, and the soft purple hues of dusk were settling over the water.
