Sunday, July 19: Day 46: Still in Deep Bay, a Dinghy Ride and another hike!

☀️ Day 46: Spreadsheet Victory, Morning Logs, and a Return Walk

What a difference a day makes! First thing this morning, I dove back into the cockpit workspace to tackle the Expense side of the spreadsheet. I was just getting ready to save the finalized file as a template for future years when I realized I needed to clear up a quick detail about handling the year-end transitions. Thankfully, my trusty AI partner and I got it squared away in record time today! With the financial dashboard officially wrapped up and functional, a huge weight was lifted, leaving the entire rest of the day wide open to work on the blog, explore, and relax.

When we first stepped into the cockpit this morning, there was the log boom from last night’s late-night drama, sitting right there in broad daylight. Seeing it in the sun really put its scale into perspective—it was a lot of logs, and they ended up staying parked there all day long.

What we saw from our boat, zoomed in a bit.

Before heading out for our main walk, Greg and I hopped into the dinghy and buzzed over to get a closer look and take some snaps of the raft up close.

The log boom up close and dirty!

Showing the corner of the log boom and where it was in conjunction with Lil' Ollie.

An even closer shot!

Another shot showing how big it was. Maybe this is a usual practice?

Since we've decided to pull up anchor tomorrow morning and make the passage across the Strait of Georgia over to Saysutshun (Newcastle Island by Nanaimo), I wanted to make the absolute most of our last afternoon here. There were a few specific photos I felt like I'd missed during our hike to the homestead the other day, so Greg and I dinghied back over to the trailhead for a second walk.

It was so wonderful to wander back through those fragrant Cedar and Fir paths one last time without the hungry, shaky hurry of our first trip! I managed to snap all the missing details I wanted.

A photo from above our boat looking towards the log boom and the opening. When we had first seen these logs the line of them was much longer so we figure they must have gathered the part that was sticking out and put it beside the other ones and that's why it looks so huge now.

The moss covered rock that looks like carpet - so soft to step on.

Greg with Artemus - he finally found me. I had gone on a mission looking for new sights! My bad - I should have waited for him but he was so slow waiting for Artemus.

Another shot of the forest!

A close-up sign I'd missed of the bay we stayed in.

I couldn't resist this one getting Lil' Ollie in the background and Greg patiently waiting for me with Artemus hidden on the floor in Big Mack.

This was so cool! A cruise ship just passing by our anchorage!

Now we're back aboard, getting Lil' Ollie prepped for tomorrow's crossing. It’s been an incredible stretch in this anchorage—between the magical homestead, the feral sheep, the boat community, and even conquering the spreadsheet monster—but we're excited to see what Saysutshun has in store for us next!
